New Life

You recently made a decision to follow Christ. The decision to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior of your life is the most important decision you will ever make. You are at the beginning of a journey, and we want to help you along the way.

Next steps to follow include: reading the Bible, praying daily and getting baptized. It’s also important to attend a Bible-believing church, and it doesn’t have to be Westover Hills; there are many good churches in our area. Meeting regularly with a community of believers will help you learn and grow in your faith.

And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Pray daily.

Prayer might feel weird at first, but talking to God daily is important for developing a relationship with Him. Prayer is simple communication that allows you to draw close to your Heavenly Father.

In Philippians 4:6 the Bible tells us not to worry about anything but pray about everything. We can also talk to God anytime and anyplace, though it helps to choose a specific time and place to pray daily. Many Christ-followers read the Bible before they pray, which allows God an opportunity to speak through His Word.

If you’re not sure where to start, Jesus provides us with an example of prayer in Matthew 6:8-13, known as the Lord’s Prayer. It’s a simple pattern for prayer that provides a great place to begin.

Read the Bible.

The Bible is essential for knowing God and His will for your life. By reading the Bible on a consistent basis, you can find direction for your life and learn how to best serve the Lord who gave His life for you.

We suggest beginning with the four gospels — Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. These books, found in the New Testament, document the life of Jesus and record his teachings, which is why they are a good place to start for new believers.

If you don’t have a Bible, you can find one online or download an app where you can choose from reading plans and Bible studies.

Get Baptized.

Baptism is another next step following salvation. Water baptism signifies turning from our old life to begin a new one with Christ.

Water baptism is also a public way to proclaim your new faith in Jesus and identify with him — being lowered into the water is symbolic of Jesus being buried in the tomb, and being raised from the water is symbolic of Jesus rising from the dead.

We have water baptisms every month. If you believe in Jesus and have accepted Him as Lord and Savior of your life, we encourage you to participate.
