Bible in a Year

This year, we’re inviting our entire church to read the Bible together.

Following along with our featured Bible in a Year plan is a simple way to build a daily rhythm of Scripture—not just to read the Bible, but to understand it and draw closer to God along the way. With helpful videos and resources, this plan is designed to make reading Scripture clear, meaningful, and engaging.

Let’s Move Forward together by spending time in God’s Word this year.

FASTING FUELS SPIRITUAL HUNGER

Fasting has been an important practice in the Assemblies of God since its founding, offering believers a way to draw closer to God through personal discipline. It’s a voluntary, Spirit-led choice to step away from regular activities, especially food, in order to focus more on prayer, worship, and reflection. By fasting, individuals intentionally create space in their lives to hear from God more clearly, free from distractions. This practice is a powerful way to humble oneself before God, demonstrating a willingness to deny the flesh and seek His will above all else.
The primary purpose of fasting is to strengthen spiritual focus, increase fervor in prayer, and gain victory over personal cravings and desires. When coupled with prayer, fasting helps believers grow in self-control, deepen their dependence on God, and become more attuned to the Holy Spirit’s guidance. It’s a tool for spiritual growth that encourages believers to rely more on God and less on their own strength, bringing about greater clarity, peace, and alignment with God’s plan for their lives.
Fasting is giving up a little to gain more of God’s presence.

There are several types of fasting. The one you choose is between you and God. He will honor your best sacrifice.

Full Fast
Drink only liquids.

The Daniel Fast
Don’t eat meat, sweets, or bread. Eat fruits and vegetables, and drink water and juice.

Partial Fast
Do not eat all three daily meals. Choose one or two to not eat.

Sunrise to Sunset
Eat only before the sun rises and after the sun sets. You can also pair this with a Full or Daniel Fast.

Non-Food Fast
If it is not possible for you to fast meals, consider fasting other things such as time spent with TV, the Internet, sports, hobbies, or other interests that command a lot of your time and attention.

*If you have underlying health concerns, please consult your doctor before starting a food-based fast.

FASTING UNLOCKS SPIRITUAL BREAKTHROUGH

  • Do you need healing or a miracle?
  • Do you want to understand God’s will for your life?
  • Are you seeking a fresh encounter with God?
  • Are you ready to be more sensitive to God’s desires?
  • Do you need freedom from anything that has kept you bound?
  • Do you crave a deeper, more intimate, and powerful relationship with Him?
  • Is there someone you love who needs salvation?
  • Is there a dream in your heart that only He can fulfill?

If yes, then fasting is God’s prescription, because fasting…

  • Awakens Humility and Repentance – Fasting is often linked to returning to God with humility (Joel 2:12).
  • Empowers Seeking God’s Guidance – Ezra and Nehemiah fasted while seeking divine direction (Ezra 8:23, Nehemiah 1:4).
  • Unlocks Spiritual Breakthroughs – Fasting is connected to spiritual power and deliverance (Isaiah 58:6, Mark 9:29).
  • Prepares Us for Ministry – Jesus fasted before His public ministry (Matthew 4:2), and the early church fasted when commissioning leaders (Acts 13:2-3).
