STRONG START: Christ-Centered Perspective

Big Idea: This four-week series explores important components of the Christ-centered life that will help students get a strong start on the year. It explores the topics of suffering, peer pressure, desire, and pride; offering students a biblical way to live in the new year.

Week One
Text: James 1:2–8
Topic(s): Suffering, Perseverance & Joy
Big Idea:
We need to learn to look past our current circumstances and find our hope in Jesus Christ.
Apply It: Knowing that Jesus cares for us enough to die for us on the cross enables us to handle suffering differently from people around us.
Week Two
Text: James 1:13–18
Topic(s): Sin, Desire & Passion
Big Idea:
God does not tempt us with sin. Our own desires lead us into sin.
Apply It: Students must take personal responsibility for the choices they make that don’t honor God.
Week Three
Text: James 3:13–18
Topic(s): Pride, Wisdom & Humility
Big Idea:
People who operate with godly wisdom will conduct their lives for the good of those around them.
Apply It: We must learn to live wisely in our daily relationships. This will reduce conflicts and help us be more effective witnesses.
Week Four
Text: James 4:1–7
Topic(s): Peer Pressure, Friendship & Holiness
Big Idea:
Conflict is the result of mixed desires produced by friendship with the worldly powers that oppose Jesus’s kingdom.
Apply It: We must learn to desire only the kingdom of God and not fall to the worldly temptations around us.
