RESILIENCE: Getting back up when something gets you down.

God View - The connection between resilience and God's character, as shown through God's big story.

God is strong and faithful, always working in our lives. We might get knocked down from time to time, but when we put our trust in God, we find the strength we need to get back up again. Jesus showed us how to face life with resilience. No matter what happened, Jesus relied on God to help Him accomplish the mission set before Him. Because of Jesus, we can trust God no matter what. We can bounce back from whatever knocks us down and complete the mission God has for us.

Memory Verse:
“But those who trust in the lord will receive new strength. They will fly as high as eagles. They will run and not get tired. They will walk and not grow weak.” | Isaiah 40:31, NIRV

Theme: Watch Your Mouth

Big Idea: Whether spoken, texted, or posted, our words play a crucial role in our lives and our witness. This four-part series reminds us that our words matter and guides us through Scripture’s teachings on the source of our words, the consequences of our words, and the ways we can use our words for good and God’s glory.

Week One
Text: Matthew 12:33–37
Topic(s): Character, Speech, Judgment

Big Idea:
: The words people speak are a direct reflection of the content of their character.

Apply It: Christians must continue to mature spiritually so our words can be honorable and life-giving.
Week Two
Text: James 3:1–6
Topic(s): Discipline, Words, Control

Big Idea:
Our speech is incredibly difficult to control and can cause a massive amount of damage in our lives.

Apply It: We must learn to choose our words carefully, so we do not cause harm to ourselves or those around us.
Week Three
Text: James 3:7–12
Topic(s): Discipline, Words, Control

Big Idea:
If we can learn to discipline our speech, we can discipline our whole lives for God’s glory.

Apply It: We must strive to eliminate any type of speech that does not glorify God.
Week Four
Text: 1 Corinthians 2:1–4
Topic(s): Speech, Gospel, Evangelization

Big Idea:
When our speech is focused on glorifying God, people will come to know the Lord.

Apply It: Like Paul, we must learn to glorify God with our words, rather than worrying about saying things that will impress people.
